A little bout Halcyon

Figure that it will be good to provide some insider information on the writer of this blog, that's me :)

A lot of people have been asking, what does Halcyon mean? I first came across the word from the song by Orbital, Halcyon & On & On, which I really love. Been using the song title as my MSN Messenger display name for quite a while before I looked upon the meaning of it.

hal·cy·on
- A kingfisher, especially one of the genus Halcyon.
- Old English word influenced by the Greek Mythology of a fabled bird, identified with the kingfisher, that was supposed to have had the power to calm the wind and the waves while it nested on the sea during the winter solstice.

adj.
- Calm and peaceful; suggesting happy tranquillity.
- Marked by peace and prosperity; golden: halcyon years.

- Joyful and carefree.

Yup, and that's how I came to use the name of Halcyon. Amazed to find out how much the description suits my personality and beliefs. Come to think of it, I just did an AURA-SOMA® consultation yesterday and selected the colours Violet, Turquoise and Gold. Perhaps more than just a coincidence...

Now lets get back on track, born and bred in Singapore, I have a burning desire to travel since I was really young, perhaps 8 years old? Remember telling my Grandmother one day 'Don't be suprised if next time I won't be staying in this Country', and she freaked out. Been making a lot of short trips, and now I'm finally gonna embark on a long trip all over the world, with the mission of learning and knowledge in mind. Do check back on this website for more information I may gather throughout my trip on the different healing practises and tips.

I have a partnership business involved with Web/Graphic Design and Audio Visual solutions, Pressure Funk. My experiences so far include writing, web/graphic designing, marketing and teaching. One may wonder how I am able to do so much at such a young age (Not telling you my exact age, but I can say I'm in my mid-20s). Somehow I seem to be able to pick up things easily, especially something that's of interest to me. I'm also one of the organisers of Om Project, a series of psychedelic trance parties in Singapore. As you can see, music and all sorts of creative communication appeals to me.

Healing is something I have picked up little by little over the years. Always eager to learn, I've learnt and read books and done my own research from benefits of different teas, to Ayurvedic massage, colour therapy, foods for our body, Reiki, etc. Would like to gather enough information of the various alternative healing therapies and utilise the knowledge to provide sound recommendations to people.

Being an Indigo Adult, I possess the qualities of empathy, and am very concerned about the level of happiness and quality of life of all individuals. Love and Happiness is something that everyone seeks for, and you definitely deserve it. :)

Click here to see if you are an Indigo too. I believe a lot of people are/are becoming one nowadays. I have been through a whole lot of roller coaster rides to survive in the human race and find meaning in life, and am still going on with my quest. Remember, we are all here to learn.

Introduction to Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese word representing universal life energy, the energy which is all around us. It is derived from rei, meaning "free passage" or "transcendental spirit" and ki, meaning "vital life force energy" or " universal life energy". The name Reiki derives from the Japanese pronunciation of two Chinese characters that are said to describe the energy itself: '霊 rei' (meaning 'spirit', 'soul' or 'ghost') and '気 ki' (Chinese qi, here meaning ' energy' or 'life force').

The knowledge that an unseen energy flows through all living things and is connected directly to quality of health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. holistic, natural, hands-on energy healing system that touches on all levels: body, mind, and spirit.

What makes Reiki unique is that it incorporates elements of just about every other alternative healing practices such as spiritual healing, auras, crystals, chakra balancing, meditation, aromatherapy, naturopathy, and homeopathy. Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize. Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced. Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work on humans, animals, plants and even situations.

Reiki encourages healing on all levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Often, the sources of physical dis-ease can be found at the emotional or spiritual levels.

Reiki is a powerful means for:

- supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself;
- changing unwanted habits;
- re-balancing the energy centers in the body and spirit;
- overcoming mental and emotional obstacles;
- stress reduction;
- bringing the body into harmony by releasing physical and emotional blockages; and
- promoting a state of total relaxation

Passion Flower - More than just a beauty

A lot among the Passion Flower family (Passiflora; syn. Disemma Labill.) are very beautiful and elaborately coloured. Its beauty extends beyond that and benefits us physically as well as emotionally.

The Passion flower (Passiflora; syn. Disemma Labill.) is a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants in the family Passifloraceae. They are mostly vines, with some being shrubs, and a few species being herbaceous.

A positive plant, some say that it elevates your mood just by looking at it. The Passion flower is also used for anxiety, depression, relestnesses, nervousness and insomnia. Did I mention has also been used as an aphrodisiac? ;)
Be careful though, as this herb may cause sleepiness to some people.

The Passion Flower has been used as an extract, herb, tea, supplement and beauty products.

Try this.. an accurate personality test

This is a very accurate personality test based on the Myers-Briggs typology (and best of all its free!). My advice is to do some research on the personality traits of your assessed type, and you can find out more insight on your personality, most suitable career choices, etc.

Just in case you're curious, I'm an INFP.

Everyday Life Quotes

'Nothing is impossible...'

by Judith Tan when we were in Secondary School

'Everything happens and not happen for a reason. If its meant to be, its just a matter of time.'

by Halcyon in Secondary School

'Everything happens for a reason...'

by Shive, have to quote this down as it reminded me of the above quote I wrote long time ago.

'Do good to others, and goodness will come to you...'

by my Mother since I was a little girl

'What is too nice? I'm just being me. It's the way I am and how I will be...'

by one of two ladies having a conversation, India

'We learn from our families. We are born into our family for a reason and there are lessons to learn from everyone of them. Same goes for friends and accquaintences we meet. Observe what you think is right or wrong, and make your own judgements. If its right, learn from it, if its wrong, try to figure a way of changing it or handling things differently so things will be right.

There is no right or wrong answer, as at the end of the day what matters is what you feel is the right decision.'

Halcyon's Journey - On Life and Reiki

Have decided to dedicate part of my time to write about my views on life, Reiki and Healing. Hope that it will help some people in one way or another. What I will write about here is not about me, but on things that apply to everyone.

Feel free to comment if you agree or disagree to what I have to say. We are all here to learn together.

Everyone we meet in our life, our family, friends, accquaintences, lovers and ex lovers will provide us with an opportunity to have at least one lesson, be it good or bad, that we will eventually learn from. Whether you choose to acknowledge it is another question. Sometimes, failure to see it will cause the same situations to keep on happening again and again. Ever have the thought that you are going through the same cycles over and over again? In this case, you need to see what's the change required to break the cycle, and work towards it.

Be positive, and think about what you want in life/love/money.. the list goes on. Trust that all your wants will come, and it will. Now I know its not easy, especially when things all seem to be so difficult and going wrong, and what is meant by being positive is not even having any negative thoughts at all. Do not even think about the possibility of your spouse cheating on you if you want your marriage to be wonderful and loving, just think about the loving things you will say to each other, things you will do together. If you are anti-war, be pro-peace instead.

Love n Light,

Halcyon
